I'm not sure why and it's very frustrating because I can't film anything. (Source: Apple) However, a growing number of owners claim that the 'new' port is running unusually slow compared to adapters or dongles. But no matter what card I use, whenever I upload my videos to my macbook pro, the videos are all super laggy. It will upload to your hard drive 10x faster than putting it in the SD card reader built into the computer.also I dont get the choppy action when playing 4k.I think others will chime in but heres the link to the one I got.again, several other brands. I noticed a warning of slow sd card and so I put in another one and it went away. You put your card (adapter) in it and the other plugs into the USB port.if you have a 2.0 USB port get an adapter that works with 2.0. I went to Best Buy and got an Insignia brand but there are several other brands. They run $20-$40. I have not tried a USB-3 card reader with the new MacBook Pro, but I can tell you that trying an older USB-A card reader using a USB-C to USB-A adaptor was terribly slow - way way slower than it ever was on my current laptop, like a few minutes for a full directory read (not even opening any images, just to finish loading the folder in Finder). When I was having the same problem everyone said get a card reader so I did.and am very happy I did. ![]() Nevertheless, the company wowed eager fans with its 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro updates that pack. Using older Sandisk 64GB and Panasonic GH5s the built in SD reader is slow as molasses, often fails. Apple made sure that the refreshed MacBook Pro is loaded to the gills with top-of-the-line hardware, but the company forgot to extend the same treatment to the SD card reader, which is stuck at the two-generation-old and slower UHS-II standard. Designed so it won’t block your other ports, it works with UHS-II SD cards and is backwards-compatible with other SD cards and adapters. Another joins in: Same problem here (new 16 inch MacBook Pro). ![]() For what ever reason the SD card reader in Macs and PC's are VERY slow.and choppy when you try to watch the video from the SD card. The USB-C to SD Card Reader transfers high-resolution photos and videos at UHS-II speeds to your USB-Cenabled Mac or iPad. You have the micro SD card and the adapter it goes into.then you are putting that in your Mac. What exactly is an sd card reader? I have a micro 16GB sd.
